Help needed

Hi I was wondering if anyone encounted any of these problems?
1 - System, and bios, no longer registers the DVD-Writer
2 - After installing Windows Defender and Windows XP SP3, I can no longer access the internet or msn messenger.

Please help. Thanks

if the writer is not recognized in the bios, windows won't know about it, try a different cable, molex a or ide/sata slot.

disable windows firewall and take it from there, it gets enabled after sp3.

1-yeah if the dvd-Writer is not picking up in the bios that means its crashing out on a hardware level so either your drive is poked or more likely a casble or slot to the drive is poked
2- not too sure bout this one but tryu checking the security settings for windows Defender
