Help! Netbook + desktop or decent laptop.

I have a budget of around R10k to upgrade my work machine. I do a fair amount of travelling, but when I'm out of the office, most work that I do on the PC is email/Office related. When I'm at the office I tend to do the occasional photoshop, autocad and video editing work.

Has anyone used laptop direct.

BUT I can also get a fairly decent desktop machine and a NC10 netbook from Digital Addiction for around R8.4k (E5200, 4gb RAM, Radeon 4850 :D , case, PSU etc).

What's a better deal in your guys' opinion? Also, I've never used a netbook before - will it be fine for excel, word, powerpoint etc? Methinks it should be.
 
Try physically use a netbook before committing to one. Small screens and tiny trackpads become very noticable when you urgently need to edit a document before a meeting...
If you're okay with that then the netbook and desktop would be my choice.
 
go for a kickass laptop, netbooks are nice toys ...

I've installed easy peasy and am learning linux on mine.

I'd prefer a desktop and a netbook.
 
14" specced laptop is your best compromise. 4GB ram, core2duo and a long life battery will be awesome.

Can be used anywhere, and less hassle than remote connections etc to a desktop.

Not me. I have been eyeing that 300 series Toshiba for a while now. Looks awesome! Would have preferred a higher res. screen for work though. Can see/do more without having to scroll etc...

Yeah but the laptop will rarely, if ever, be used for gaming (I might install Warcraft 3 and use the laptop to play WC3 at home in order to save power). The standalone gfx card is more for design-type work that I occasionally have to do. I specced a 4850 in the desktop machine just because it's so relatively cheap.
