Hi

help - router lights are all displaying correctly. PPP, ADSL, LAN, Power and Sys lights are all displaying corretly (all lit) - By typing in my routers ip adress I can't get into the router's control panel. I can ping sites OK. When I try via dialup it, same issue, no pages will display (both local and international). E-mail is screwed as well, any ideas?

Thanks a bunch

currently at internet cafe till 17H30

Have you tried rebooting the router? Are you capped?

cheers foir the reply teraside!

yep, done the router thing, turned off and on.
not capped, also having same issue with dialup!

can't even get into the router's control panel.

Dialup modem? Could be a virus or some DHCP issue, hard to tell though.

Don't you have a phone which you can hookup to your pc and connect from home? That would be cheaper than an internet cafe.

Try going into Device Manager, disable the network adapter connected to the router, restart the pc, enable it again and see if you can log on.

Alternatively, make sure you are not using a "proxy" when trying to access the router, proxy's don't allow you to access the router, especially in Firefox. Disable it and try again (even the saix proxy).

If all else fails, give Telkom a call and report the fault.

I connect fine with dialup, but websites will not display.
will give the Device Manager a shot
will also chjeck the proxy thingie.

cheers for yr help

Are you using Firefox or IE? Try it in both.

onlky IE, has been working fine. Also have not installed any new software lately.

could be a range of things but try this.

open a dos prompt and ping www.google.com
it should resolve to an address but might not ping.

if it doesnt resolve you got dns/network problems.

if that works try "telnet www.google.com 80"
it should connect - cursor will flash on upper left cnr.

if that fails you probably for router/firewall problems. if it works then u got IE problems.

Yup, sounds like ZoneAlarm.

AIR,
Do you have ZoneAlarm firewall installed?
Installed the latest Windows Updates released on 9 July?
If yes to both, then it's your ZoneAlarm that's causing the problem. I had the exact same problem when I rebooted this morning after installing the latest Windows Updates and realised I could not browse sites, even though I could ping sites etc.

SOLUTION:
The KB951748 Microsoft security update (it fixes a serious DNS cache-poisoning vulnerability) causes ZoneAlarm to stop working on Windows XP. ZoneAlarm released new versions of their products today that fixes this problem. Just download the latest version from their site, install and reboot and you should be fine.

thanks guys/girls for all your efforts. Yes, the issue was ZoneAlarm/MS - am in the process of downloading the ZA update.
Once again thank you for taking the time to reply, it is very much appreciated.
