I was thinking on getting a mouse pad big enough for my keyboard and mouse and I thought why not cover the entire desk so I just wanted to know what about these materials as a cover also can you guys source these maybe cheaper or maybe something better ?

Polyethylene Foam Rubber
Neoprene Sponge Rubber
Neoprene Rubber

also does the thinness matter ?

desk size is approx 1200x1000 mm

Mousepads are a thing of the past... We needed them to provide traction to ball mice... That became redundant with optical mice... No need!

I reckon you still need them. I had just a laser mouse and it wore out my desks finish.

Wrong. A mouse pad protects your desk, and especially your mouse's feet. It also gives you a consistent surface and, depending on the type of material and mouse sensor, precise tracking with no skipping etc.

A bad mousepad however, will chew up your feet even faster than usual.

^this

If you are in to gaming at all, the correct pad can make a major difference when it comes to tracking. MAJOR difference. And even for normal day to day use.
