Help/Opinion on PC build please.

Remove everything except for the PSU, MB, CPU & one stick of RAM and see if it posts. If it does start adding one component at a time.

Yup, that's my next step when I get home tonight. Just wanted to see if there was any other suggestions I might try before uninstalling everything. Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't buy from ComX because they don't have as much choice as you'd find elsewhere. If you're set on them, I would suggest:

Intel Core i5-3470 @ R1960
MSi H77MA-G43 @ R864
Kingston Hyper-X Red DDR3-1600 8GB @ R428
PowerColor HD7770 1GB DDR5 @ R1399
Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA3 @ R620
Strontium Hawk 120GB SSD @ R1055
Samsung SH-224BB 24x DVD-RW @ R185
Cooler Master Elite 344. Plus @ R346
Corsair CX430 V2 80Plus Bronze @ R477
Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit OEM @ R896
ASUS PCI-e PCE-N10 Wireless N @ R259
Total: R8576

Since you won't be overclocking with the Core i5-3570 you chose, this is a much cheaper option. I also put in RAM that allows for better latency tweaks if you ever go in that direction and a faster GPU, the GTX650 can't really hold a candle to the HD7770. Most of the budget goes to the SSD and the OS and I highly recommend Windows 8, especially for system builders on a tight budget since you get the same features you'd find in Windows 7 Home Premium at the price of the Home Basic package.

However, some of the games you'll be playing do require a faster GPU. I don't know what size screen you already have, but if you're aiming for high settings at 1080p, I'd recommend dropping the SSD and HDD for the PowerColour HD7850 2GB GPU and a larger 1TB hard drive.

I'll definitely recommend dropping the SSD and upgrading your graphics card to the one he suggested (if you're another forum member looking at the thread)! Wesley's build will be as good as it gets.

Hope you enjoy your new realm of PC gaming!

Well, the first thing I did was remove the GPU and try booting and hey presto it boots. I can access the BIOS and everything.
Plug the GPU back in and no display, take it out and display works.

So now I'm installing the OS with the GPU out and then I'll try installing it again.

Is it maybe a BIOS setting I have missed? Or is it likely the GPU is DOA? Or do I need to maybe install the drivers first?
GPU = Powercolor HD7850 2GB

Did the GPU come with a Molex to a 6pin connector? Could be a faulty power connector.

If the PC does not POST with the GPU installed then installing a OS is not gonna help squat. The PC has to POST before you can load an OS and if it won't POST with the GPU installed then it ain't gonna load the OS.

Check the GPU & associated power connectors. If you can try it in another PC/motherboard.

PSU has a 6-pin, no need for an adaptor. GPU fan spins up so power is getting through.

I'm pretty sure it did post but did not display as I had an error message in windows the next time I booted without the GPU. I don't hear any post beeps even when I boot successfully. I think I read somewhere that some MSI boards don't have a post beep?

Don't have another pc that can accommodate this GPU. :(

Right, went down to my dad and used his pc to test. He has on old gigabyte gt 240 in there. Swapped the 2 cards around, the 240 works in my system but the 7850 in his system just gets 2 long beeps at post which repeat endlessly.

Will check what the beep code indicates but I'm leaning towards a cocked card now.
