Hi All

I hope someone can help me.
3 Weeks ago I took the telkom "DO" Option 1 package self install.
i.e. 384 1 gig with free Mega 100WR modem.

Telkom actually connected me to the exchange in less than 1 week (amazing I nearly fell over when they phoned me) Anyway I have installed the modem and my DSL light is on on the modem and if I go into the modem config URL the DSL says "connected". However I cannot connect to the ISP (telkom) I have also got an account at "webafrica" and still nothing.

I have phoned telkom everyday and they keep telling me that the modem is "syncing" and everything looks fine. BUT IT NOT.... And I am very frustrated.

Does anyone know what I or telkom could be doing wrong???? PLEASE

Thanks
Mark

I think I had the same thing happen to me.
The modem would sync, I could connect and authenticate with the ISP (Cybersmart) but zero traffic would be routed through the link. Connected but zero traffic.

I phoned Telkom and had a long chat with support and it turned out that Telkom were blocking the traffic for some odd reason.
They gave me the Telkom guest account details (can't remember them) and I logged in and opened http://www.telkom.co.za.
Then I switched the account back to Cybersmart and viola - it was working!

This was NOT for a self install so I don't know why I had to do the line verification thing and I'm not even sure if it was a line verification process. Anyhow logging in with the Telkom guest account, viewing Telkom's web site and switching back to the other ISP fixed the "block".

Cannot connect to the ISP? As in no data transfer or no Authentication?

Aren't you supposed to verify that the connection is working via the minisite?

I have a feeling that doing so may cause telkom to automatically unblock the line.

Hi all

Thanks for your responses. The "internet" or PPP light never comes on on my modem. So I cannot get to the telkom default website to verify. I have reset my modem at the back and the default settings with "guest@telkomadsl" is in the user name field. But still no luck.

Question... If the user name\icp etc setttings for the isp is not configured would the ppp or internet light on your modem light up or not?

Thanks
Mark

Nope no the internet light wouldn't come on in that case. I had exactly the same thing happen to me, ordered do1 on self-install and my WebAfrica account would authenticate but zero traffic coming in or out (maybe a few bytes only).

What you have to do is retry the verification thing on telkom's site. Use the guest account on your router. It usually takes 2 or 3 attempts to finally verify properly so do that. Even if it says the verification is successful it might not be so do it again and then phone Telkom and just ask them if it's verified properly.

Hi

How did you know if your WebAfrica account could authenticate.

I have been into the modem config and on the "Basic" page I have the guest account configured and I then click connect and it never connects.

Thanks
Mark

Assuming you've done the verification , go to the router page and click on Setup, put in your ISP details, skip the wireless setup step and change the username and password for the router and then reboot the router.

When it authenticates the Internet light comes on but like I said, many of us had the problem where even though the Internet light was on, there was NO traffic flow. The only reason I was given that this happens is that the verification step didn't complete properly so if it still doesn't work your best bet is to retry verification using the guest account and then re-enter your ISPs details afterwards, if it still doesn't work call Telkom.

Hi

I have done all that you have sugested however the internet light has never comes on (not even a flicker). I have phoned telkom (i cannot remember how many times) and they tell me they will escalate the call and no one ever phones me.
I am thinking I should just tell them I will pay the R500 and get them to come to my house.

Also what is interesting is that since they have been trying to help me (syncing the line etc) my DSL is now connected at 4 MB (from 384) nice... pitty I cant use it.
