Hi, I have a BMW e46 318i (pre-facelift) with stock speakers and BMW Business head unit and would like to upgrade (although I would like to keep the head unit so as not the disrupt the lines of the dashboard). I'm not looking to make people's ears bleed (i.e. no subwoofer or billion watt amps), just something decent, with richer bass and treble that doesn't sound like it's being played through a washing machine.

Has anyone ever replaced the stock speakers on their e46 and, if so, could you give me some pointers (i.e. suitable diameters, which amps work with the existing head unit etc.). Also, the installation process - especially for the footwell speakers - looks quite complicated. Can I do it myself or should I rather have a professional do the installation?

P.S. comments about how the stock system is "good enough" will not be appreciated. I had a R1400 system (head unit and four speakers) in my old car which sounded a heck of a lot better.

Did you manage any success with this?
