Ok so I got a powered USB hub finally.

Another angle..is it possible to boost power to my usb ports on my motherboard?

Uhm this might be a long shot but did you check that there's actually a drive letter assigned to the drive. Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management- Disk Management. See if the drive is in there, if it is. Assign a drive letter and you should see the drive in My Computer

The same problem

I have the same problem, my laptop request the installation disc for My Passport Elite 500GB HDD, the same things happen to me: the yellow mark in the HDD icon in the Device Manager! ...and of course the HDD work properly in other laptops. Did you find the solution?

Hi All

I never was able to solve this problem. I have now in my possession about 3 powered USB hubs and a Firewaire Y cable with two USB ends (one for power), no difference. Has anyone ever been able to find a fix..ah well in the meantime I went and bought myself a few 32gb memory sticks for back ups . Much less hassle!
