Hi I’m planning on one of the following two Internet options:

Option1:
MTN Uncapped Lite(3GB) @ R319 x24 months contract
Free Hauwei B683 Router
After 3GB fair-use the speed are caped to a max of 256kbps

Option 2:
Install a phone line installed
Buy a nice ADSL router
Afrihost 1mb uncapped line for R297 (includes line rental)
Month-to-month contract

My main aim is to get on of these options and provide Wi-Fi to my flat neighbour so that he can pay me R150pm using the uncapped line. (to reduce my cost)
And ill be running a desktop with LAN cable and laptop, smart TV, smart phone and Tablet with my Wi-Fi.

Please advise guys

personally I'd go the ADSL route unless you know you're going to get a really good strong signal from MTN, also the mobile data market is very dynamic at the moment so tying yourself into a 2 year contract might not be such a good idea

Get the ADSL. If you're sharing the connection, 3GB might not last you, esp with so many connected devices. ADSL will be more reliable also.

EDIT: Didn't read about the after 3GB fair use. Still, get the ADSL. :)

If you go with MTN you will experience much pain and you want to share the line as well.
3gig is very little and 256kbps will become practically unusable upon sharing.

Go with ADSL as previously stated by Ol'Mean Bastid.

I have been switching between different providers over the past two years waiting for my ADSL line (security village had no Telkom infrastructure) and it is a pain, they are coming to my place to install the lines, finally!

ADSL all the way, especially if you are going to move larger quantities of data which in SA is anything over 3GB's (maybe 10GB if you include 8ta) lol.

And plus like was said before in order to get good rates on mtn or 8ta you have to get it on contract

Please note that the throttled speeds of MTN are 0-256kbs, its very important that you note the the big fat ZERO, not really uncapped seeing that your internet will be unusable at time, POS product this from MTN

Hi Guys,

Thanx for all the useful info…
I think ADSL it is!
Please indicate which service provider gives the best cheapest 1mb uncapped line with preferably line rental included.
I live in a next flat complex with already a Telkom line but no fittings, so it must still be connected.
Which modem/router will give me the best Wi-Fi coverage so that I can supply my neighbour with a strong steady signal without using a booster/repeater?

ADSL will be better since you wanna share the connection but also remember it costs more, analog line rental+data+adsl line.

You need to have a Telkom line (i.e. Telephone line), then you can shop around for your ADSL Line (which in your case will be 1mb) and the uncap product.
Mweb will be your best option for ADSL Line and uncap product.
Remember there are three components to ADSL.
