Help pls

Hi all

As of this morning i've been experiencing a rather strange problem. I booted up my pc this morning and loaded WoW, nothing strange at first then i started getting strange graphics glitches. And then i got the BSOD which states that nv4_disp has gone on an infinite loop. So after re-booting multiple times with the same result i tried another game, and another and another, same story. in WoW its about 5min game time then crash in oblivion its about 10min then crash.

i've googled the error but every fix i've gotten my hands on doesnt seem to work. i've tried using older drivers, underclocking my gpu, updating drivers. nothing seems to work.

I'm running a gigabyte mobo GA-k8n pro sli, GeForce 6600GT PCI-express 128mb, AMD athalon64 3500+, 1,5gigs of RAM

I've been using this setup for the last 5months and i havent ever had a problem. If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it! the only option left is either a new card or a format to see if that fixes it.

You might want to check that the card isnt overheating. I had the same problems a year or so ago...opened up the case and the fan on the display card had stopped.

It appears that recent updates to Nvidia video card drivers have agitated timing settings in some motherboards, causing crashes and an error that states the following:
"The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates."
Alternately, there are freezes and BSoDs.

You might want to check that the card isnt overheating. I had the same problems a year or so ago...opened up the case and the fan on the display card had stopped.

Not a bad idea ..and also cheap to implement, never a bad thing! I'd also eliminate the power supply as a source of the problem.

There's the traditional way of just temporarily plugging a different one in to the system, but AFAIK these video cards also take power off the PSU so I'd feed the card(s?) off an entirely separate unit for the test ..and for those not in on the trick, you kick an ATX PSU into action by shorting the green wire (4th in from the LHS if you have the plug facing you with the latch that hooks it in place on the motherboard) facing you to any of the nearby black wires.

ok so i've downloaded rivatuner and left it to monitor my gpu core temp which rises in excess of 110c! while playing games and does not drop below 80 in the dessktop with the case open... guess this must be overheating gonna check for dust clogs
