Hi,

I just tried to port from Cell C to Vodacom prepaid, and I got a message saying that it was declined because of an "Account type mismatch".

I recently canceled my Cell C contract, and I thought that they converted it to a prepaid account, so I'm not sure why this would be happening.

Cell C said that the contract would be discontinued on July 25th, do I have to wait until then to port?

_da.

If the line is still on contract with Cell C then the port request needs to be submitted on our system with the contract details. The Cell C number, Account number and your ID number will be required. Once that is done and Cell C approves the port then you may port over as prepaid.

Hi Ockie,

I was going to get a new contract from Autopage*, but they were so full of sh*t that I decided to just buy the phone and go prepaid. During this process my dad (since the Cell C contract was in his name) requested the cancellation of the contract and I believe also to have the number ported. He got paperwork from Cell C, but I think we gave this to Autopage.

Would you suggest I:

- Ask for the paperwork back from Autopage, or
- Make another request to Cell C to port, or
- Go to a Vodashop and ask them to do it all for me?

Thanks for your help.

* I was with Cell C directly, but they didn't have the phone I wanted when I was due for an upgrade.

mmm so who is ure sp? autopage or cell c?

if ure line is currently still a contract...then i suggest u go to a vodashop and ask them to assist u as they then need to submit ure port request on the system with the contract holders details...in this case and if i understand correctly...that will be ure dads id number etc. once the donor network and sp approves the port...the vodashop will fhen rica a prepaid sim for u...BUT also flag it as a port in. ure cell number will then be linked to that prepaid sim number...so when u dial 100 to activate the sim...ure cell number will be assigned to that sim instead of a new number randomly picked by the system as it normally does with new prepaid starter packs.

Cell C is still my SP I guess, at least until my contract ends on July 25th.

I've already RICAed my prepaid sim. I tried to use the "portme" SMS thing, but it didn't work as mentioned in my first post.

It won't until you are passed the 25th by the looks of it.

Why are you porting to Vodacom? Aren't cell c's prepaid rates cheaper? Vodacom has a promotion running until 31 July, but its going back to normal after then AFAIK.

Because you can't do international roaming on Cell C prepaid.

International roaming is always too expensive anyway. Best thing is to get a prepaid sim in the new country you're visiting.

I had a similar problem with autopage and their "systems". I now have to wait for the 28th of July to port to Cell C from Vodacom.

Went to a Vodashop today, stood in a queue for about 10 minutes, and was then told that they don't do porting on weekends ... WTF?

Yeah. It would be ludicrous to go with a SA contract/PrePaid SIM overseas. Rather get a local PrePaid SIM there.

Yes, I recently did this in the UK (giffgaff & "3"), France (Orange) and Croatia (T-Mobile) - worked like a charm !

So I waited until July 25th, and then sent the port request again, and it went through, and said that my number would be moved to the Vodacom network yesterday. Now, when I call my number, it makes a beeping sound, and then it's engaged!!!

Help please.

Did the store only request to port the number or did they do the port? You should have gotten a new Vodacom sim card if they already did the port.

I did the port myself (by sending an SMS). I purchased and RICA'ed a new Vodacom sim card.

Best will be to phone 111 to find out if the port went through last night. You need to dail 100 on the new Vodacom sim to activate it if the port was activated.

If the port wasn't done it will give you a new number. PM me your number.
