Lately my data/airtime has been disappearing slowly.

Yesterday evening i downloaded my data manager, deleted all downloaded apps including the antivirus and began logging my usage.

I stopped all running apps, cleared RAM switch off wifi and used USSD code to check the balance- R39.54. The phone lives in my handbag and apart from receiving one phone call it has not been out of my handbag all day.

The balance now shows as R37.78??????

Samsung S2 on prepaid SIM. If MTN can assist i'd appreciate it.

Android will always restart apps and do some data transfer every so often.

You need to switch off mobile data in settings if you don't want it to use data

Tks imranpanji, appreciate it.

I know it's a ridiculously small amount but it's irritating none the less.

It's not the amount that counts... Its when you need to make an urgent phone call, and you realise all your airtime has disappeared.

Thing is, each time i check the balance throughout the day it's gone down by 32c, 75c, 40c and it's now averaging R10 per day. Local MTN shop confirms no subscribed services and i only send whatsapp but receive many SMS messages from the alarm company, bank, credit card etc so don't want to switch off mobile data permanently.

Also why's it only happening since the last few weeks.

Hope i get a reply from MTN. This is the reason i went prepaid so at least that's a good thing.

Going to check out Scloudstarter and Adservice, both apps it says i downloaded. SamsungBilling, SamsungInAppPurchases, GooglePlayServices. Whatsapp seems ok unless there's a charge when the phone synchs.

How many WhatsApp messages do you send? They use data. SMSes don't use data, they use your airtime, so switching off mobile data won't stop incoming SMSes.

Do you buy data bundles?
You would need a data bundle, it cots less per meg than out of bundle.

Oh, i didn't know that :wtf: i thought whatsapp was virtually free and used minimal data. I admit to using it with gay abandon. Tks for letting me know i'll get SMS messages with data off, because MTN are always giving me free SMSes.

Tks venomous, perhaps i'll price the bundles.

I'm just unhappy about losing R30 in 4 days, very hissy, but i'll monitor the whatsapp.

BTW R1 disappeared while i was asleep so i'm still not sure it's only whatsapp.

I've had the same number since my first cell phone and don't want to have to change it

This will always be your cheapest bet.
Your phone will eat through your airtime if you don't have a bundle.
