Telkom help line is useless and I'm dumb ..plse help!
Presently using my dial up modem for this contact
Connected the CONEXANT USB modem.(Full Rate ANSI T1.413Issue 2 ITU G992(Glite) Single pentium3pc,one telephone line ADSL connection to TELKOM192 confirmed by telkom technician using his modem and laptop. I have correct username & password.
When I connect the telephone line to the modem The icon in status bar depicts a Conexant access runner ADSL which states its connected. Always shows bytes sent but NO bytes recieved.
When I installed hardware I was asked to choose a WAN or LAN connection!
Ive tried both with no success.
Using the LAN or HIGH SPEED CONNECTION I am told I am firewalled connected yet Still no bytes arwe recieved and no contact with internet achieved.
There is a repair option that has not helped after clicked except to say I should contact administrator.
On the icon shown as the standard blue pc faces as the Local Area connection6 it states Im connected.

When I chose the WAN connection I was asked for username and password which obviously makes me presume this is the right option but the reply is that the remote computor did not respond ...thus I am yet to be connected here.
I have installed the drivers , uninstalled the entire system reinstalled using both options yet still cannot connect.

The settings options states point to point protocol over ethernet PPPoE is been used with no other option available.
The connection uses : the standard list of options such as internet protocol(TCP/IP) Client service for Microsoft Networks , Client service for Netware etc etc some aere ticked some not with options to install and uninstall.
I rekon the problem could be here!....!!??

So as anybody with that basic knowledge or experience that I don't have will see I am sitting with too many permutations of obtaining a connection.

Is there is short and simple method in gaing a connection and As I assume there is could you either give a step by step procedure or if this is too detailed refer me to a site where specific help might be available.

QWell Here I sit in anticipation

Thank you in advance for any help tendered!!

Thanks Doekvoet!
On the attempt to locate the RASPPPoE from Carrick (http://www.carricksolutions.com/pppoe/windowsxppppoe.php#21) the result was a dead end: Error 404
The page you are requesting could not be located. Please try the tool bar on the left or up top to find what you are looking for.
I'm not anyway inclined to be a technician as there seems to be reams of data on this website ...
Nonetheless on the Telkom site I hunted high and low for their PPPoE client to no avail!
Finally I tried www.raspppoe.com which thankfully delivered me the desired result!
So I have downloaded the 32-bit release for x86 machines 150kb zip file and will install it once I have cut thuis dial up connection.
So, can I assume that once this program or what ever it is is installed I should be able to make a connection and not just get the error message?

I will read up what I can from the website and hopefully if u still around you could advise me of any further aids or precautions as I attempt to establish this ( whaT i THORT WOULD BE JUST A SIMPLE CONNECT AND GO ) adsl connection.

Once again thanks a lot for your help and any further advice will be appreciated ...

telkom DSL connection Issues sorted ..Thx

Thx to Willie Viljoen(Adaptive Web Development),Jinx and Antowan who almost a year ago gave a detailed help guide on the thread http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=14040 ("I need real help with ADSL please"). Also thx to "ragfeet" for advice passed on yesterday on the required installation of RASPPPoE protocol. Ive literally been Funking around with all sorts of options and permutations since last night which due to the additional installing of the "cfos" programs, advised elsewhere on this site actually did me more harm than good due to conflictswith settings in my dubious settings. Not to say these programs arn't worthwhile if they were installed in the proper manner !

After cleaning up and reinstalling for the 5th or 6th time I had no doubt that the VPI and VCI values were the gremlins which needed attention...Problem was I could not locate these values.
Now if anybody else purchases a cheapskate modem (CHRONOS USB )as I did..... Wholesale +-R200 then this is the key as no where is the layman user shown how to access these values.
after accessing the Conexant access runner on the control panel one is left with a solitary panel without tabs! Now if this is the location for adjustments then it was a bit of a mystery to access it.....
The answer is ..(probably obvious to most , although no where on this site is this advised) press keys: ALT and i ....opens all! Wala!
Changed the 3 to a 8 the 43 to a 35 and the rest is History ....immediate recognition and access at 640kbps.

So once again I thank the webmaster and moderators for this help forum and those that have taken time out to help the non tech googlers like myself.

Right lets go see what the difference will be in the downloading of a 10 mb file that used to take 30 to 40 min on my 24000 bps dial up acc.

Finally , anybody reading this ...arm yourself with the facts & dont relent on impressing upon all around you that the tax paid on your earnings is at best, only a third of the total tax paid when you include your phone & fuel costs . If you own telkom shares then u are also greedy ..take your gift as believe me there are some prominent individuals who will be taking short positions on the stock soon! The protection racket is soon to enter the real world!
