Got no idea wrt his daughter's age or hand size but assuming she's on the younger side of things I reckon it's a great suggestion! I have asked the OP wrt hand size and got no feedback wrt that.

Correct. Download bios to usb stick and flash it without a cpu.

Second hand GPU prices aren't bad, I picked up a RX580 4G for R1300 at the beginning of July, great card for the price and not really that much slower than my GTX 1660Ti. Carbonite does have quite a few good prices.

Not badly priced, the keyboard is actually pretty good for the price, I mean it's memchanical but it feels good, the mouse is a basic mouse but it's capable and for a kid it's cool as it changes colours .
Remember you're quoting rather pricey periphals for a child, if I look at what mice I had when I was that age, though I did have a mechanical keyboard up till about 1994.

Hi everyone,

I would like to buy/build my daughter a mid level gaming PC for her birthday, but only have 3 weeks left.

I've built many PC's in the "old" days, but my last build was more than 12 years ago before I switched to Macs. I've kept track of the evolution of PC hardware since then, but I don't have nearly enough insight anymore to select components that go well together to maximise performance and avoid creating bottlenecks.

As mentioned in the title, my budget is ±R20k and the goal is to maximise gaming performance. I don't have names of specific games she will play at the moment, but I expect to buy a wide variety of titles on Steam and I know that the performance will be utilised.

I like the Ryzen 3000 series processors, but don't know if stock will be available locally in time for her birthday. I don't want to do water-cooling and I'm not too bothered about overclocking. A compact case will be a plus, but a full size tower won't hurt.

Please give me suggestions on the following components and possibly good places I can order from locally:
CPU + Cooler:
Motherboard:
RAM:
SSD for OS:
HDD for storage:
GPU:
PSU:
Monitor:
Case:

Suggestions on the keyboard and mouse are welcome as well, but my main concern is with the tower and monitor.

No, I still have to buy a license, but that doesn't have to form part of the budget. Win 10 Home should be ok, right?

I'm going to import the Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, but I see that I can import a RTX 2060 for about the same price I can get the GTX 1660 Ti locally.

Is the RTX 2060 a big improvement over the GTX 1660 Ti? There's a 40W power consumption difference, but a 500W PSU is still the minimum recommended for the RTX 2060, so that doesn't have to change.

You're looking at ~15% performance increase with the 2060 and you get rtx. If it's the same price go for it!

If you can get it, get it the RTX 2060 is better and you'll get a basic RTX card as Ponder said.

Currently standing at R20063.99 so will obviously go over budget once import duties are added as well as the case and OS, but that's ok. I remembered that I still have a 4TB 7200 Enterprise HDD that I can use for storage, it was damn expensive so best to put it to good use.

Will have to get headphones as well, but I think it's best that she picks that herself. Will have to give the case allot of thought, so that's why I'm taking my time on that.
