Woke up this morning only to find that I have no signal on my iPhone 4 for some reason. That's to say it picks up MTN but I have no bars. Went up the road still no signal everything else works just fine. Put my Vodacom contract SIM in and same thing. Picks up Vodacom but no bars. How do I find out if a base station is down in my area that is if Vodacom and MTN are sharing? Cant test my SIM on another phone it's a micro SIM. I'm in the Pretoria North Area.

On further inspection. I noticed that I can get DATA (fluctuates between Edge/3G) but no voice.

I have to restart mine about once a month. It will suddenly have no signal even though it says Vodacom. Stays like that until I restart.

Sounds like it could be an outage in your area.

Otherwise try reset network settings in Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

Thanks guys. Tried all that still nothing. Stranger still I thought let me turn flight mode on and off and see if that helps. As soon as I turn flight mode off for the briefest of moments I get one bar then it's gone, very weird. Have not moved out the house today will check tomorrow again and see if I get better coverage.

Depends where in the north, there is some place I also don't get signal mainly I u go down past solomons

Hey guys, been having the exact same issues since the 16th as well (in Pretoria, but started happening at work in Midrand), worse thing is, when I reset, it sometimes asks me to do a restore, doesn't want to allow me into past the little connect to iTunes pic. After restore works fine for a couple of hours with full bars, then back to "No Service", had to restore twice since Friday, never had to in the past.

Non jailbroken 32GB IPhone 4, latest iOs update, been working fine for 9 months.

Could this have anything to do with them getting the network ready for the 4S?

Any advice/comments?

Looks like hardware problem. Rode around yesterday and nothing. Data works no voice. Did some snooping around the internet and seems I'm not the only one with problem. Will send it back tomorrow see what they say. Would love to know what what cause such a problem, my phone is pretty much mint never dropped in it's life fully protected. It's almost as if the voice part of the antennae has been disconnected leaving the data working. Wouldn't think you could have one without the other. Anyway will report back with findings.

Apple released an iOS update that resolves a certain issue with an SIM error. Maybe update your iOS software and see what happens.

Same for me, restart fixes it.
