An old PC I am setting up for a worker at our complex used to boot up fine. After about a week it started not giving any video output once in a while (from the point of switching on). There were no beeps after switching on the computer and all the fans (chassis, graphics card and CPU) were running. I assumed it was the graphics card giving in (when at times it did give video output, it worked on two different SVGA monitors [one at a time]).

So I bought as second hand graphics card which I presume is working fine. There is however no video output on either of two monitors. All the fans (including the one on the graphics card) are running. There are no beeps during booting (not even the one beep). The LED on the motherboard is on. Would it be the motherboard giving the problems ?

And if you plug in the old GFX does it work again? Does the mobo have on-board video?

Maybe try and replace the CMOS battery as a start - could be problematic on older mobo's.

Thx mallomjan, the motherboard does not have on-board video. I will give the cmos battery a try. If it should be the battery, what exactly goes wrong ?

EDIT: If I insert the original graphics card again I still get no video.

Disconnect everything. Reconnect only psu, 1 ram stick, cpu and power it on.
If still no beep try a different psu, I've had a few instances where you get no post beep with fans spinning where the psu was at fault.
If stll buggered it's probably the mobo.

Google the motherboard model. Check for the POST(power on self test) beeps and what can be the cause that it is not beeping when you boot it up. This usually is the easiest way to find the fix. But also check the cables
