Hey guys,

I have around R3000 and am wanting to upgrade my PC for all these up-coming games coming out like AC3, Watch Dogs Far Cry 3 ect..

My current specs are :

CPU : intel Core 2 Quad Q8300

Motherboard : ASUSTeK P5P43TD

RAM : 6GB

GPU : Nvidia GeForce GTX 560Ti

PSU :Gigabyte Odin 585W

HDD : 2TB

Now I am only looking to upgrade my Motherboard and CPU, and these are what Im looking to upgrade too :

CPU : AMD FX-8120, 3.1GHz Octagon (8) Core - http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=4206

Motherboard : Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 - http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18&products_id=723

So is this the best I can get for R3000 ? Or would anyone recommend something else ?

PS : WIll my PSU be able to handle everything fine or will I need to upgrade that aswell ?

Hmm but in multithreaded application and games like bf3 having more physical core and cache help the architecture but is undoubtedly less superior though . I have q8400 and 55fps on bf3 ultra @1080p.

Motherboard: R1,200
ASRock Z77 PRO4-M, all-in-one LGA1155, Intel Z77

or

Motherboard: R917
MSI H77MA-G43, LGA1155, Intel H77
Product Page

This motherboard does not have on board HDMI, has 3 less SATA ports (2x SATA6G + 1x eSATA) when compared to the ASRock above.
Also please note that both motherboards do not support SLI, only Crossfire.
If you can not justify the extra features the AsRock provides then the MSI is for you.

CPU: R1,916
Intel Core i5 3470, 3.2GHz, LGA1155, Quad Core (with 4 threads), 22nm, 6MB

CPU Benchmarks:
AMD FX-8120 Eight-Core
Intel Core i5-3470 @ 3.20GHz

According to the site above the Intel Core i5-3470 outperforms the AMD FX-8120.

Total with AsRock Motherboard: R1200+R1916+R75(shipping) = R3191
Total with MSI Motherboard: R917+R1916+R75(shipping) = R2908

It should be ok, but the Odin series is hated by the community for being of such poor quality. Also please note that the power supply isn't actually 585W it's actually a model number and it's presumed that the power supply is a 460W.

Thank you. Best reply I've gotten so far!

And the PSU is definitly 585W so that should be okay. I hope.

But thanks so much for your help. I will be taking your advice then on getting the i5 and AsRock

Both the Asrock and the MSI look like a good plan, depends how many peripherals you want to connect and whether you want HDMI out (with a discrete graphics card I don't see any reason for it). I have an older generation i5 and for gaming it is a dream, definitely recommended.
