Ive had 2 clients in the last week bringing me their pc's with no os found error

everything is fine when i load xp it says all hdd space is free, and i can reload windows xp fine with no hardware problems

both hdd's are maxtor and seagate

it seems like info has just disappeared

anyone know why or have similar experience?

MBR missing? Boot with the windows XP install disk and choose repair install. This wil re-write the MBR and boot.ini files. Or maybe the FAT has become corrupt and is mis reporting the files and free space.

I think you can repair with a Partition Magic emergency disk.

naaa when i reload windows there is no option to repair

its comes to the screen where you see the hdd and both had 99% free hdd space

so a 40 gig had 39.8 gig free even though there was a windows install plus files running for the last 2 years

Geez...
That's why I sometimes hate PC's... One moment they can be running like a dream, next moment something hits you with a low-blow...
Good-Luck:eek:

Strange - had this exact same problem this past weekend. Corrected the problem by running the "fdisk /mbr" and "fixboot" command from the recovery console. Then booted into safe mode and cleaned the two virusses detected.

That's what I was talking about

yea but it didnt help eh, it was like they where formatted

o well no biggie just wondering if someone knew why

they definately seem as if they were formatted or the partition tables were removed/deleted, no way your going to get all hdd space free.
