My Axiz 8GB USB Flash Drive is acting up.

Tried it on 2 pc's and in multiple USB ports but I either get:

1. 'Not formatted, would you like to format?'

...Or else...

2. It shows a corrupted folder name when it can see anything on the drive. Folder will not open.

In scenario 2 it shows 3GB used and 5GB free which is accurate.

Then I ran scandisk and now I get access to the drive but no folders show up. Still shows shows 3GB used and 5GB free under properties.

Q. Is there anything I can use to try to restore the files before I give up and try to format it?

Give this a try - GetDataBack - it's helped me out plenty of times - let me know if it works and we can make a plan... :)

or DiskInternals data recovery...

If either of these don't work, then you're probably in the dwang - reformat, full format.

Thanks howardb. On another forum they also suggested GetBackData.

Unfortunately, it didn't work in this case. The only time I could see the files was when I ran a virus scan on the drive and I could see like 3GB of *.chk files.

Decided then to do a format.

Fortunately the data wasn't too critical, thanks for replying though :)

bekdik, you must have predicted my next problem.

Formatted using WinXP and copy new files to USB Drive. Go to other PC. 'It says not formatted, do you want to format?' Swear repeatedly at cheap Chinese P.O.S. Repeat whole procedure 5 times with same result.

Return to forum. Read your post. Download HP utility. Works 100% now.

BIG thanks :D
