Hey guys,

Getting a new HD4890.

So have to get a new PSU - looking at the Gigabyte Odin 585W..

It's cheap and it's above the required power of 500W.

What I want to know is if this PSU is going to be ok for this card,

my major concerns are if the amperage on the 12v rail is enough, if the rated 585W is the truth, and if gigabyte PSU are decent? i trust the brand, but I don't want any issues!

Can anyone give me any advice here? Will be greatly appreciated!

Note: The rest of my rig will use very little power, only 1 DVD drive, 1 sata HDD and 3GB of RAM.

tnx for the great links rift

this is off guru3d:

On an average system we feel that a single Radeon 4890 series requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit at minimum if you use it in a high-end system, and I feel that's a little on the safe side. Also recommended is a total of 32 AMPs on the +12 volt rails for stable power distribution (in a single card configuration).

the PSU is 585W (any my system is NOT high-end) and the total amps on the 2 rails are more than 32, 34 or 35 i think... so i'm thinking i'll be ok with this one!

That info on sybaritic page also indicates it has only one 6-pin connector. Looks like you'll need 2.

That "585"watt is only a true 500watt.

Only the odin gt range is rated for continuous output.

I'd say have a look at the coolermaster 550watt.

Wish there was somewhere they'd list actual outputs for PSUs. This "marketing power" thing irritates me no end.

Yes, but we're seeing alot of PSUs these days with peak ratings when RMS ratings are more important.

lol yeah like some of the speaker with there pmpo rating, or the old mw trick - ratings need to be root

I run a Q6600 with one HDD, two DVD drives and a HD4890 on the Gigabyte Odin 585W just fine. System has 3 big fans as well.

Gigabyte 585watt is plenty. The card will come with a Molex to 6 pin connector for the 2nd 6 pin needed to power the card.

well IMO just get a psu with a good warranty at least - i had a the Biggest Corsair and it popped after 8 months. (luckily i got it swapped on the spot!)

ya from wat i understand its got the molex adaptor so that should be fine.

tnx a lot IRG - if ur running it just fine then i should be ok, aside from that gfx card my system is pretty average.

tnx again to every1 for all the help!
