Hi guys,

So on friday i'll be buying my pc. I'm sticking to a strict budget of R5700.

My question is, should i put most of my money towards a good graphics card or good CPU or should I balance it?

eg: I can get a i3 2130 or a phenom 965 for about R1450, That way i can spend R2200 (give or take) on a card, Or i can get an i5 but not as powerful a GPU.

I'll be wanting the system for gaming and will be playing at 1920x1080 res.

Thanks :)

Do you need an entire machine, like PSU and HDD as well? Either way you generally want a better gpu

I have a case. All that i gotta get is a psu, hdd, ram and mb. But i have sorted that out.

Currently the prices on components are quite a bit more expensive than they used to be like 2 months ago, due to the poor exchange rate.

Could you perhaps tell us what games you'd like to play?

Usually I'd say R7k is the minimum for a decent gaming PC: a real quad core (eg. i5 2300), decent gpu (eg. hd6870), enough RAM (eg 2x 2GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 1.5V), a fast hdd (eg. WD Caviar Black 1TB) and a good PSU (eg. Corsair CX500)
and then you should also get at the Windows 7 x64 (Home Basic [which supports up to 8GB of RAM] at the very least - which you can get for like under R700).

By the way, what case & DVD drive do you have?
Is your case big enough and with good enough cooling?
Does your DVD drive have a SATA or IDE interface?
