Hey guys,

I'm trying to help someone with setting up a Sony Ericson Xperia to have 3G data access, He's never used the network data before; only wifi. That that Cell C's new data network is up in our area he wants to start using it. Cell C cant help!

We have loaded the internet APN name in and put the recommended IP address under the proxy setting with the port 8080 but it still doesnt work! help! I'm not used to Android handsets so i'm struggling....

Are you using the promotional 3G data SIM or your own SIM. I think that for now only the 3G data SIMs have access to the 3G network.

If you are using the 3G data SIM, check if your phone supports the 900MHz range which CellC uses for 3G. If your phone does not support the 900 range then it will only pick up the EDGE service.

To download settings dial *147# and select the option 1.

I think its is possible to use the new Cell C data promo SIM. Think voice calls are possible at R 1.50 and it should work fine with your Experia. In Android go to Settings/wireless and network/mobile network settings/access point names. Press "menu", choose "new APN" and, name APN as "Cell C and in field for APN type "internet", no username, no password. Hope it helps.

thanks, it is an existing Cell C voice contract. Did those exact APN settings and it didnt work. Almost like it wasnt switching the service on as i dont see any icons for a data network or connection.

Cell C themselves dont seem to be able to help as they cant support an android handset

Like TerrorBite said, I don't think their current sims supports/have access to 3G yet...

Nashua told me that I can buy CellC data bundles on my contract, but they can't tell me if I have to replace my sim or not...

No 3g access for standard contracts yet. Have to wait till cell c decide to do it or get a new data sim.
