Help with choosing a phone..

Hi all, I hope I can find some help here.

I have quite a few "wants" so here we go:

*QWERTY Keyboard
*Ability to sync contacts/mail/calendar/todo's with yahoo mail
*Must be able to use whatsapp
*must NOT be a blackberry :D
*3.5mm headphone jack
*Decent camera
*Light in weight
*Sufficient onboard memory (ie 1gb or more, if not then a microsd card slot will be fine)
*Contacts must work with calendar (add a birthday to a contact it must appear on calendar)
* Not more than R100 on a top up contract

Shew :D, I was thinking of the Nokia C3 but apparently it does not support whatsapp, correct me if im wrong

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
 
I see you say not more than R100 but I know you can get a Nokia E5 on Top Up 135.
The Nokia E5 is definitely worth the extra R35 per month compared to Nokia C3.
Best I can think of with you requirements and budget.:)
 
Which network? If it's Vodacom, send ocleroux a PM, he works for them and it seems like he knows the contracts and deals by heart. And he knows a thing or 2 about phones, unlike your typical Vodacom employee. Their website is as helpful and up to date as always, in other words not at all.

Any network will be fine.. On vodacom ATM so im not too worried about that :)
 
Why not a BB, it meets all your requirements plus its has data price advantages. Too many of us BB addicts, cant beat us then join us.

Ok then send him a PM, I'm sure he'll help you out, he's a MyBB regular. He's always telling people about contracts/phones that are out there or coming to Vodacom soon. If you're not happy with the Vodacom deals I'm sure the other networks will have something similar.

Oh, yeah, MR.C is right though, the requirements you listed will all be met by a Blackberry. If you want something more high-tech though, ask OC.

meets all your needs and more with no surprise in data costs.
 
This is something I was complaining about in another thread: there's a serious lack of budget Androids with qwerty keyboards in the South African market.

Still, here are some options you may wish to consider if you're willing to shop around between different networks: the Motorola Milestone on MTN. The Motorola Backflip on Vodacom. The HTC Desire Z on 8ta. For your price requirements, Milestone is probably your best bet. It's a bit outdated by modern smartphone standards, but it's still a really solid phone.

Whats app will obviously run on Android. Synchronising Yahoo Mail with Android is easy; you can use the built-in Android email client, or download the official Yahoo Mail client from the Android Market. Sync'ing contacts can be done using an intermediate service like Soocial or Plaxo to sync your Yahoo contacts with your Google contacts. Calendar sync can be done by syncing your Yahoo Calendar to a Google Calendar, which in turn will sync with your phone. I'm not sure how to sync to-do lists, but there are many to-do lists apps for Android (Astrid, Taskos, etc.) and maybe one of them supports Yahoo sync. Birthday/calendar sync on Android can be enabled by doing this. You can do pretty much anything on Android, although it might require installing an app or tweaking the settings somehow.

EDIT: Oh, I made a mistake. It turns out you don't need an intermediate service to sync Yahoo contacts with Google contacts, because Android can sync with Yahoo directly.

Lol thanks for the help.. I didn't say, but i prefer a physical qwerty.. I am quite settled on the nokia E5..

Hi,

May I ask why the "No BB"? - it really is awesome, whatsapp works and you get BBM in the Mix - all data included.
