Hi,

I have been using my Netgear DG834 modem/router/switch for about a year now and it is working great. Connecting using PPPOE.

BUT: I now require my two computers to connect to the internet using different ISPs!!!

So, I need to put the modem into BRIDGE (??) mode, and setup my computers to connect to the internet.

Problem: I can't figure out how to do this in the modem setup. It does not talk about bridge mode at all !!!

Q: Does my modem support it?

If not, then can anybody recommend a GOOD, cheapish modem that can ???

:o

I know you are able to setup up muliple isp login's, however I am not sure how you would be able to control which one is used and when. I used mine in this mode for a couple months (two accounts with one isp) and it was hardly ideal, when the one account hit its cap I had to delete its login details to connect with the second account. There may be away to get the PC to prompt for the username that should be used when connecting you would have to check on Netgears site but I doubt it would allow to connections at the same time.

I was under the impression that I could dialup to IS with PC1, and connect to SAIX with PC2 at the same time?

I know that other people connect to IS with PC1 and PC2 at the same time. Their computers initiate their connections.

I don't know if each connection has its own IP addy, or if they share one.

Any ideas ????

KEWL !!!! I did not know that.

I have the following options available to me:

1) Router (Modem + Router)
2) Modem (Modem only)

No Bridged mode... Which should I select ????

Edit: How did you hear about this hidden page? I have been looking for an answer for ages....

I've got the DG834G, also have only the "Modem + Router", and "Modem" option.

Haven't tried it before, but I guess you can make 2 or more pppoe connection from 1 pc.

Sounds to me like one can just go ahead and make a pppoe connection without changing anything? Only thing is, you will want to disable the router function.

BRILLIANT... I think that I have it working... Thanks for the help, I will let you know after some testing !!!!!!!

hi people,
by doing this, you severely downgrade the DG834 to a cheap modem. you pay double, then get 1/3.
you can use any ethernet ADSL modem + PPPOE protocol software (win/unix/linux platform) to get that result, easier and cheaper on both time and costs.
i'd like to swap my spare modem to your DG834G, that's a really waste for you ;)

But as far as we've been able to tell, you can't do PPPOE through the DG834 while it's in Modem and Router mode. Or at least I couldn't :D If you have light to shed on that, please do.

Razor: I found that hidden page somewhere on these forums actually when I first got my router up and running... dunno about rellik

So, You wanna swop ??? :D

Obviously it wouldn't be a straight swap :) It's still a more valuable piece of gear, even if it is only being used in part.

If you find a way to run the netgear to dial multiple connections without losing its advanced functionality I'd love to know how it's done. Since any changes to the box gets reset every time it gets powered down, it's a bit pointless modifying it in that way :(

If I knew that way back when I'd rather have gotten a router that can be modified to handle the multiple connections. It still handles wireless connections well, something a plain modem does not do, and it also servers as a ethernet switch.

if your model of netgeat supports it, just tick PPPOE Relay. You can then use the netgear as a router and as a modem.

there was a thread discussing this already.
