Hi All i put together my new pc yesterday Asus P5N-D Mobo, 4gb DDR2-800 mem and Core 2 Duo E8400

when I run pc-probe and speedfan my cpu and mem are running at high temps 48 degree idle and up to 57

Please guys any thoughts, is that the normal temp.

out of interest.. why does speed fan show such big differences to real temp? i just tried this on my box... and then.. how do you know which app to trust? :)

People trust what they want to, in this case the lower one :p

either Coretemp / Realtemp / HWmonitor is good for the job.

Remember to set your Tjmax to 100 in the ini files (if it is not done yet)

Your temps look exacarry like mine. I have the same chip. :)

Temps are fine.

CPU only damages over 80C, but long term over 70 will damage it too.

Realtemp is the best for Penryn's and it already has the correct Tjmax so do not touch it

Beg to differ. I just tested realtemp 2.7 and it sets Tjmax to 95. Intel came out in August with the propper Tjmax values for these processors, which is 100.

I know Tjmax is not exact science as it can differ slightly between processors & batches, but a 100 Tjmax is bit more on the safe side than 95.

Maybe I am missing something?
