We currently have our own domain and our emails are using Google (mx records point to them) this was the old type google accounts where it would allow you to register your domain with them and get free Gsuite benefits.

Yesterday i found that i couldn't receive emails from any other email address apart from the ones sent from my own domain. Today that has seemed to have sorted itself out but now i am not receiving mail from specific sites (Pastel & ABSA). I tested the pastel website and emailed an invoice to a gmail address and the mail came through instantly. When sending to our company email address we don't receive the mail.

What could cause this and how can I rectify this issue?

Would it be better for me to get my own hosted server / email server?

Have you tried using mxtoolbox (https://mxtoolbox.com) to debug mail issues ?

Could be the mail server is rejecting if the mail servers ptr do not match or even spf records are missing or incorrect.

Going with your own server will help a lot and because you will have control over it. I do recommend if you decide to down that road, chat to the guys at GP Hosting, (https://www.gphosting.co.za/ , https://www.gphosting.co.za/windows-cloud-hosting )

Those guys can help out with this.
I wouldn't know what to look for or what the errors mean lol

Will have a look at GP Hosting

Thanks

Google mail is sometimes problematic as random users report emails (such as statements from Pastel) as spam and then all email from those servers are blacklisted which is problematic.

You can give us a try if you want to have your own hosted solution - we also offer you domain-level management of your incoming email to release from quarantine, add whitelists/blacklists etc.
