Hi all, I need some help. I currently have XtraView set up at my house, one decoder in the lounge and the other in the flat. I'm getting sick of watching what my parents are watching so want to try get the signal from the flat to my room in the house. This would mean I'll have to run about 30-40m of cable, as we don't want to take it out of the flat (will then have to use a remote booster to change the channels). I was wondering, isn't there maybe an easier way gettting the signal to my room in the house? Was told that there would be signal loss because of the length of the cable. Also heard that the Wireless AV Transmitters are crap, and besides the wireless of the house doesn't even reach the flat so I doubt it'll work anyway.

What I have tried to do is actually stream DSTV through the network, from the computer in the flat, and try watch it on my Wii, but the audio seems to be way out although the picture is nice and clear (gets worse as time goes on). Also tried to watch the stream with my netbook (Asus 904HD) but I think the processor struggles a bit as the video keeps breaking up.

Any ideas??? Please help

Try one of those Wifi SIMcard transmitters.

Also consider a Dreambox or similar 3rd party PVR, which can share a card over ethernet/internet.

I'm confused. You have XtraView, with one decoder in the lounge and the other in the flat. Why would you then be forced to watch what your parents watch? XtraView means you're able to change channels because of the decoder unit in your flat, except if you guys went el'cheapo and never got a Dual LNB?

And if you already have a decoder in the flat, why would you need to run cable?

Missed this bit? ;)

So, I'm guessing the signal is merely split from the main decoder to the OP's room, with the XtraView in the flat being a completely separate circuit. Does seem to be a bit of an arse-about-face way of wanting to do things, though.

Well you must already have a cable running from the flat to the house between the decoders so that Xtraview works, so if you connect it up properly the cable from the lounge to your room can carry the feed from both decoders. Yes the quality wont be the best but it shouldnt be terrible

Thanks for all the replies. Whoever installed this XtraView was really stupid! They made the primary decoder in the flat and the secondary here in the house. Noticed that the primary decoder can pick up both signals of the primary and secondary, so it was possible to watch 2 channels. After fiddling a bit yesterday, I switched the 2 decoders and played with the cables a bit and there you have it, now we can watch 2 channels here in the house! FINALLY, I can watch my own channel... Just have to buy a remote booster now then it's all sorted. Thanks for all the suggestions!
