Help with Firefox

Ok guys, here's one for you. I love FireFox but all of a sudden, every minute, it downloads some data. This doesn't happen in IE. Its not much but after a while it adds up to quite a bit. All updates are turned off and I have uninstalled all extensions etc etc. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening now?

As a 1st step, have you started Ff in safe mode to see if it happens there? Also, have you looked around for memory leaks? (elgooG for it)

yes, still happens in safe mode. no leaks. oh well, i'll just put up with the cap usage....

Then maybe it's time to upgrade to packet sniffing? I know there're some good 'doze tools, but I can't for the life of me recall their names RHRN ..but, as a starting point, I can recommend NetLimiter; while it's meant for, well, limiting traffic, it's also dead handy at seeing what app is connecting to where. Oh yea, there's another one too: are you on the latest version (currently 1.5.0.3), as Ff gets the updates in the background without prompting you.

Yes, I have the latest. Hate Netlimiter as it hijacks my entire system. My firewall tells me its connecting to a 146 address which i traced back to Mozilla. Am working on it and will fix it. Thanks for the input.

IE7 has tabs, but (in my opinion) poorly implemented. It lacks the ease of Firefox in terms of tab usage. And of course the extensions...

ploempie, have you tried creating another firefox profile and then seeing if the same thing happens?

Didnt think of that jarr. Thanks, giving it a shot now.

EDIT: Well, I still don't know what it was but it is now gone. Thanks jarr. :)
