Hey guys,

I just installed a 4890, and its running fine.

But when I go into the ATI Catalyst Control Centre, under current values for GPU clock it says 500mhz!!

When I try use the ATI Overdrive function to set it to 850Mhz, I click apply but nothing really happens, it still stays at 500Mhz. I can adjust the memory clock, which is at the normal 975, but the gpu clock won't budge?

I am currently using only one PCI-E power connector at the moment though, getting a molex---->6-pin convertor soon.

Could the lack of power be limiting it somehow?

Perhaps it has a power saving function, like speedstep (from intel) to lower the clock when in 2D windows mode?

Maybe I'm just being optimistic?

Try running a small 3d window next to your catalyst display window?

Good Point there...

Most Radeon Cards have power-down settings...

ye it is a power down setting :( my bad guys!

but one other thing i've noticed, is that im not getting the fps i should be in cod4..

i think this is due to the card not getting enough power, could it cause this?

better get that extra pci-e connector

If you've only got 1 6 pin power connector installed then it's probably that.

Get power delivery sorted out and take it from there. If you're in CPT I have one for you you can have for free.

+1, ATi cards also have powerplay in which the card operates at a lower frequency in 2D. As soon as you run a 3D app the frequency goes back up

ok kewl, tnx guys.

so the lack of fps probably due to power issue then?

tnx for the offer but unfortunately not in cpt :)
