Hey guys,

I needed some help with my home network setup. I have an ADSL modem router downstairs that acts as my primary router serving adsl. I have 2 switches connected to this router which serve ethernet throughout the rest of the house.

I have 3 Wireless Access points in the rest of the house that connect via ethernet to the switches. My primary ADSL modem router acts as the DHCP server, while the access points all have NAT, uPNP and DHCP disabled. They are all on the same Subnet as the main modem and same IP range. I have no problem browsing the internet in the house.

The problem I am having is that I cannot print to my HP printer when I am connected to any of the Access Points. The printer is connected wirelessly to my main modem. However, when I connect to the main routers wifi, I can print fine.

The other problem is that if I am connected to the main router via wifi, I cannot login to the other Access Points web interface. However, I can connect to the main routers web interface from these access points.

The models of my gear is as follows:
1 x NetgearvDGND3700v2 - ADSL Modem Router
2 x Linksys Cisco SE2800 8 port switch
1 x Trendnet TEW-632NRP - Loaded with DD-WRT and acting as an Access Point
1 x Belkin F6D4630-4 - Access Point
1 x Netgear DG834GT - Access Point

Like I said, I have no issue actually using the internet. Its these odd issues as mentioned above that are giving me a problem. Any ideas?

For each device mentioned , list separately the IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway Address & DNS Servers for both Primary & Secondary.
Table format is fine.
Also do the same for the printer where applicable.

Since you can browse the Internet from anywhere, it seems the Gateway is fine. Might have to do with the DNS Settings.
Also, is the printer connected via wireless or UTP to the primary router?

Two areas we will need to focus on is DNS as mentioned, as well as how the wireless AP's are configured.

Hey there,

Here is the link to all the settings u asked: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AntnA7il5gNcdHRNU3MydlcyeFI2WWtGQl80WVNWeXc&usp=sharing

The printer is connected via wireless to the Netgear modem/router. I cannot even access the printers web interface from any off the access points (at the moment it is 192.168.0.22). But if i connect wireless to the primary modem/router via wireless, i can connect to it fine.

Thanks!

If this helps, a friend has an HP Officejet 4500, the networking feature worked fine foe a few days then it buggered up the whole network setup, nothing would communicate just out of the blue, eventually we removed it from the network as a printer and shared it via their desktop which is always on and immediately the network began working again, printing is all ok aswell

Leave the ADSL router (x.x.x.1) as the only DHCP host for addresses x.x.x.100-254. Give the wireless APs static IPs (x.x.x.10,11,12), and make the access points just extend the network, no need for NAT or WAN. When you NAT you forward all packets in one direction to the router, which is why you cant print when connecting through the wireless APs but you can browse when on them.

Hi There,
I have had similar issues before and that led me to reading up more on NAT.
For those that need a better understanding of it here is a link

In most of the route help and config screns that I have seen they advise you not to do anything with the NAT settings and generally I have found them to be right.

Regards

Tim
