Hi,

Im hoping someone can help. I setup a home network and it was working fine. Then I wake up in the morning and its not working and I havent been able to get it working since.

Basically I have an ADSL modem and a 5 port switch. Both are D-Link.

I have one cable (straight) going from my pc into the hub.
One from the modem into the hub and then my parents pc is also going into the hub.

Like I said, it was working perfectly. My parents could browse the net and I didnt change anything so I have no idea why it stopped working. I plugged the network cable into every port and tried with every combination. Last time, as I plugged the cable in to the hub it picked up the network straight away.

Do you think it could be the cable? Maybe my switch isnt switching anymore?? I dont have another cable or hub to test with tho...

can you ping everything on the network from any given PC?

Thats the thing, the network is setup fine. I have a static IP on both machines and have turned off DHCP on the modem.

I have set the default gateway set as the modem.

It works fine plugged straight into my PC but when I try go thru the HUB my PC cant see the modem.

IT was working fine, then I wake up in the morning and its not working...

So when you say it is "fine" I assume you HAVE tried to and can ping the other computer through the nework?

Strange, destination host unreachable... I think my hub has died. The light is blinking too which means theres something wrong.

I copied 6GB over the network earlier. And I havent changed any netork settings. Im gonna take the modem back.

I had to swap the modem a few weeks back, I bought it from the same place...

I'd get the switch swapped out. Sounds like either end of the connection is broken. That error usually happens on a hardware issue. Either the cable or the NIC or the switch. Or maybe even all of them. Are the connection lights on on the LAN port on your PC? Check the connection and see if packets are being transferred, check if the counter goes up.

Plug you PC directly inro your router and see if that works to elkiminate the switch.
