Ok, so my pc all of a sudden started rebooting at will, sometimes during boot, sometimes after hours of load.
Have tried to troubleshoot and disconnected all other no essential hardrives optical drives, periferals etc's, so left with just C drive mouse and keyboard with lan cable.

Thought it was ram see this post but memtest running for a while checks ok, before it reboots that is, no errors.

2 images from HWMonitor.

CPU temps are all ok then I get some spikes, they last only a millisecond or 2 but surely this is not cool, any thoughts.

Temps are left actual, middle min, right max
1st image is fine
2nd image has max temps reached on the right next to cpu and cpu socket

This is surely not normal??? The quick spike in CPU temp?

Last image has a TPIN4 line in the cpu setting?? also sky high?

Any ideas here, been running like a dream for a year no probs now this?

thanks

That just looks to me like a temperature sensor fault, unless those values gradually increased till they reached those temperatures.

Temperatures won't be able to go up/down like 10'C within a second, unless perhaps the heatsink isn't attached properly, then the temperatures could easily rise from say 40'C - 100'C within a few seconds.

From what you've described, I'd guess that it is simply a temperature sensor measuring fault.

I would suggest that you disable the automatic reboot during system crashes, so that you can write down the error codes and then look up what may have caused it.
You can already download BlueScreenView, which may be able to tell you what caused the previous errors. That application can get you the error codes of the previous blue screens, but then you'll have to look on the Internet what may have caused those error codes...

Hey Pada,

Thank you, disabled the auto restart now. Lets see.

Also, are you perhaps using Asus' AI Suite/EPU software?

I've had lots of issues with both my Asus P6T Deluxe v2 (X58/Socket 1366) and Asus P7H55D-M Evo (H55/Socket 1156) motherboards where the PC would just crash and reset, which was due to the overclocking/downclocking done by the AI Suite/EPU software. Once I removed that again, everything was stable again.

AI suite, have used it for some time, about 4-5 months ago I got a SSD drive and did a fresh instal and did not include the AI suite with other programs loaded, but oddly enough did a month or so ago.

I will remove it this arvie.

Ran pc in std mode not overclocked at all in the bios.

Its one of those really frustrating problems.
The machine literally just shuts down, as if someone has pulled the power cable out, it doesn't really lock or crash.
Then it auto (tries to) starts. It like starting a bike with no fuel brrr brrrr brrrr nadda lol. Then sometimes it makes it through to Windose, loads then just switched off again HAHA.

I'm laughing so I don't cry :)

PSU (year old)

Sneeky, unplug your Ethernet cable and run Prime to test if it is temperature related.
If temp related, try reapplying thermal paste and re-seat cooler.

If it's not temp related, then get this: http://nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
It will show all your error dumps.
If there's no dump prior to pc shutdown, then try the good old (tedious) process of plugging out/in hardware and testing...

Thanks, will give it a crack.

The CPU has been on the board for over a year and never removed, so I am doubtful about those temp reports.
Individual core temps don't show those high temp ranges, so maybe false reporting.

I have systematically removed all unnecessary hardware components, stripped the whole machine down to monitor/keyboard/mouse, 1hd.
Even unplugged optical drives and various extra fans.

Running memtest the machine turns off, I think this is PSU or Mobo, has to be, after 10 or so minutes of memtest there are no errors recorded.

Also tried another std HD which I had in my machine before the SSD, it is untoucehd as it came out of the machine and never had issues, even with that (backup) drive the machine still shutsdown when it feels like it or struggles to boot, so I can eliminate a windose or HD issue for sure.

Before you throw your mobo/psu out the window, check the ram settings in your BIOS.
Manually set the ram speed, timing and volts to match the specs of your ram.
Sometimes the "auto" settings think you have uber ram and gives it higher values than what the actual spec is.

Shot, thanks for the tip will have a look later.

If I could find a place in Durban to buy a new decent psu (1200W) and ram I would just do that frankly, but you can't get **** in surf city, bleh.

Vlerk, wonder if it could be your CPU fan that is on its way out? Maybe it's periodically stopping or almost dying - temp goes through the roof and pc shuts down. Start up again and it works for a while longer etc. Did you watch it when you had the box opened up?

Hi There,
Rapid build up and dissipation of heat is not normal. It is likely the heat sensor is at fault.

Have that checked first

Regards

Tim

She no boot no more eish, haha. Everything spins up but the mobo is toast I reckon.

Pada, have l8ads of drives and other power drawing devices. Also 6990 gpu , rather to much than to little.
Cant find a P8P67 mobo in durban anywhere, bleh. Will have to wait till i get back from overseas next week.

Try a new PSU. I had a similar problem, replaced power supply and now everything is 100%

Put a new PSU in, same result, put an older GPU i have lying around herein with same result.

Before it went completely pear shaped I managed maybe 15-20 min stretches of memtest with no errors showing up.

Noticed when I started plugging fans bag in one of the fan plug pointson the mobo (3 pin) is not powering the fan anymore, switched a fan that was spinning to that port and nothing.

Pretty convinced the mobo is kaput.
