I am having problems with one of the computers in our network. We all connect to the net through a Linksys router and datacard, and all PC's have static IP addresses.

Every now an then, this prticular computer seems to loose it's connection to the net, and then wants to try use a "dial-up" connection (backup). The only way to fix this seems to be to right-click the LAN connection in the system tray, and do a "Repair", if that fails I have to reboot the PC.

It only seems to be a problem on this one computer. Any ideas.

Hmmm... very little info to start solving the problem, I am assuming the following:

1. you have a program that needs to connect to the internet for data xfer?
2. you have an internet dial-up connection which is set to 'dial whenever a network connection is not present' in you IExplorer connections settings?

If the program needs data and there is a problem with the cable or router where it doesn't get the data then the computer will use the dial-up. I would test for a faulty cable or router port / setting or such to begin with.

If you don't have a program, I would set it to 'never dial a connetion' in IExplorer settings and then create a shortcut to the dial-up connection on the desktop for the user to use if there is a problem.

Sorry if I'm completely off track here but its a start somewhere :o

check link speed & duplex settings on your network card. change from automatic to 100Mhz, full duplex.

hint - open the properties on your network connection, click configure next to your network card

Go to control panel>internet options>click on connections at the top>click never dial a connection>apply>ok.

It should work ;)

Make sure this specific pc isn't sharing someone elses IP address :p :D
