i tarvel alot and do short video edits and graphics so im planning on buying a laptop and an external hardrive, but i need advice as to what kind of brands and sizes or types to buy.
please help!

Upgrading laptops is a bit of a mission compared to desktops, rather buy a higher end laptop to start off with. I'm very happy with my Dell Inspiron 9300, but I don't think they make the 9300 anymore. The 9400 is very nice tho.

Think all brand's high end laptops are good for you.
But I went to a mutlimedia convention 3 months ago and saw these really cool Asus laptops.
1.66Ghz dual core centrino
1gig ram
Geforce 7300 GO 512meg

Think u need something a bit better than that if u like video editing, but my cousin brought that machine for some graphics design and it works for him really well.
And upgrading is a mission, depending on what type of laptop u get. The higher end laptops are usually more upgradable, which makes them more expensive~

If you want to upgrade your laptop you need to look at the Gigabyte's new laptop range. Apparently you will be able to change everything in it just like a PC.

Depending on the software you use you cant go wrong with a MacBook Pro and Final Cut Pro is a superb video editor.

What ever you get make sure it has firewire - not all PC laptops do - as its far superior to USB2 for this sort of thing.

I have had a HP NX8220 for about 10 months now. I do video editing, work on Photoshop, corel draw and Qwark no problem. In my eyes HP will get the job done at a decent price.

On the subject of Quark . . did you upgrading to 7? Is it worth it?

PS - sorry for the O/T :o

There is also the Precision notebook range (M65, M90) from Dell which is aimed at professionals with this purpose, editors, designers, etc.

What price range?

Dell and Mac are all good and great, but I think they are a little over priced.

Yep, IMO, of the 2, Dell is still cheaper.
And don't forget Sony Vaio

Asus, Acer, HP, Fijutsu Siemens, IBM are all options, but in the end, you have to make choice... where do you want to go today? :D

Price will be a determining factor, will kidneys be involved? :D

Nope not yet, was thinking of it. If you get to it befor me let me know what you think.
Looks like I'll have to take the plunge - £249 for the upgrade. :o

I've got the windows demo of quark, and it's not that easy to use ;) I'm not sure what benifit it has over previous versions, but the Adobe products are much easier to use.

I prefer Quark to InDesign any day of the week - probably because I've been using it since version 3. It's still the industry standard which helps.

Still, if I thought there was good enough reason to switch - I just haven't come across one yet. :)
