Help with Mikrotik hap ac² router

Hi all,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum or if this thread has been done before. I bought a Mikrotik hap ac² router for cheap. I have a Huawei B612-233 router which is responsible for the internet in my house. The wifi performance on the Huawei router is ok at best. This is where the Mikrotik comes in, I connected it to the WAN port on my Huawei router but that leaves my wifi unprotected which is obviously not ideal.

My problem is I can't access the Mikrotik router to set it up. I tried accessing it via the default Mikrotik IP as found in their documentation (192.168.8.1) as well as through the DHCP address assigned to the Mikrotik router by the Huawei router. Each attempt resulted in an address unreachable page in my browser. Any advice would be appreciated.

...the WAN port you say. Why?

Did you factory reset the mikrotik? Have you tried connecting to it directly, as in without it being connected to the Huawei?

I connected the MikroTik to the WAN port of the Huawei router so that it can effectively be an internet source. My end goal is simply to use the MikroTik to serve up a better wifi network within my home.

I tried a factory reset now but I cannot find the connection on my phone anymore. I held down the reset button until the usr light flickered and let go of the reset button. I did not expect this to be such a headache

So you have LTE? And want to leverage the 5ghz wifi of the Mikrotik?

Rather connect the Mikrotik WAN port to the normal LAN port of the Huawei...

So LTE >-> Huawei <LAN:_ethernet_:WAN> Mikrotik >>5ghz Wifi

Yes exactly that I want get the 5ghz wifi connection of the MikroTik
Like I said I managed to get the Hap AC2 for cheap from a friend
I'll do that and connect to the MikroTik WAN to the LTE router LAN

Once you have done this, you are halfway there. If you are lucky, things will just work. Although, this is a Mikrotik and it normally involves some tinkering (that is above my pay grade) - you are hoping to route traffic to the Huawei's gateway IP in the end.

I managed to set up the MikroTik router. I set a wifi pwd and router password I connected the LTE router LAN to the MikroTik WAN and I am now connected to the internet via the mikrotik. I can access both router configs on while connected to the Mikrotik I would classify that as a success

Might also want to kill the wifi on the Huawei.
