Help with new PC build

Another way to save money for similar performance is to get a phenom2 940 instead. You'd be able to save R1000 on the motherboard and use ddr2.

Thanks,

So now my choices for PSU are:

Antec Neo HE 550W
Antec TruepowerTrio 550W
Corsair HX 520W
Enermax Modu82+ 525w
Enermax Liberty DXX 500w
Coolermaster Silent Power Pro 500w

All in a similar price range and

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 500W
Zalman ZM500-HP
being a little more expensive

What is the performance difference between the AMD and Intel system?
It seems as if Intel has been kicking AMD's butt for a while now

Not since the release of the phenom2. The phenom2 has great performance.

Intel does kick amd but only in certain things, there is no difference in gaming between the 2.

If you want faster encoding and that sort of thing go with intel, if your only going to game though amd may well be worth looking at. Although ddr3 is so cheap now so you could not really save all that much but for the price of your mobo you could get a top end amd mobo.

Get the cheapest of the following:

1. Enermax Modu82+ 525w
2. Coolermaster Silent Power Pro 500w (flat modular cables)
3. Corsair HX 520W (I own, flat modular cables)
4. Neo HE 550W

That Sapphire HD4870 1Gb price looks out of this world. I've checked sybaritic, digital addiction, take2 and prophecy and they are all pricing a 1GB 4870 at around 3 grand. Do you mjean the 4850?

I don't know where he's getting that price in particular, but Landmark have a HIS 4890 for R3071.05...

as I'm sure some of the contemporary folk would say, those prices are off the hook.
