Help with pest dove (bird), before I...

Hi all

Been dealing with a pest dove for almost a year or more now. It's a large specimen and even sounds different to doves I've heard, with the most annoying near-grumble followed by a deep tone (and variances). Not like smaller doves/different species which are actually quite pleasant to listen to (higher pitched nice sound).

It is just so annoying. Almost every morning I need to clap/bang something/spray water to get it away. Starting to get fed up.

I can't believe I am even entertaining killing the bird. Do I have any other options? :(
 
howzabout a pellet gun??? a couple of stinging shots should do the trick ...

Get a cat? :D A nicer way would be to find out why it is there every day and move its nest, or take away its food.

The cats are on the other side. I believe they are the reason this dove is now on this side.

There is a medium sized leafy tree which it likes I guess. Has tried nesting twice but I removed it. I think they're nesting close by now.

The idiots answer to everything that annoys or doesn't agree with them is to kill or destroy it. Really man.:mad:
 
Try and put some moth balls at the nesting area they don't like the smell
 
If the culprit is the Speckled Pigeon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speckled_Pigeon I have bad news for you.

You will have two ways of dealing with the pest.

If you do decide to shoot/kill the bird, you have to be accurate and target the head/neck. Shooting it anywhere else will cause a prolonged death. So unless you are an excellent marksman, forget about this option because as soon as you kill one bird, a next will step into the void and start adverting himself to get a mate.

The only other option is prevent the pigeon to land there. Here you will have to become creative. Maybe an old CD or a shopping bag tied with a cable tie to one handle to catch the wind.
 
I am an animal lover , so if a dove inhabited some of my space i would love that , that said
Get a toy snake or owl that looks real and put that in the area affected :erm:

Meh. They are stupid as hell. So getting close to get a head shot or shooting it in the back isn't all that difficult.
 
Get a cat or another animal to kill it and when someone complains say Circle of Life.

Dude, chill!! please man, i love animals as much as anyone else, but once they start becoming pests in any way would you just allow that? and no, I never meant for it to be killed, plastic pellets should do the trick of scaring it off after a few days of target practice!

Nope not the Speckled Pigeon. Looks more like a Red Eyed Pigeon, according to Sasol Birds.

Trust me I'm the same hence the predicament. However this is not your normal dove that everyone knows. This particular one is different. It's big and literally sounds like a cat purring. It does not have the usual dove "cu-cu, ku-cu-cu" call.

I feel your pain. We have a family of Guinea Fowl, Hadidas and Egyptian Geese in the area. Boy, do they make a racket!

Also had two Starlings trying to nest recently. Bought a cheap bb gun, but it was useless.

Hate those fckin things.

Toy snake & CD on a wire both work. CD is better & make sure it catches sun. Good for about 4 months of peace. Cat is no good for this. And they are super alert, so shooting them isn't always easy.

Ended up removing the thing they were sitting on.

Also, seems to correlate with temperature. On coldish days them make much more noise.
