So I considered but this under a new nick as it's a bit personal, but here goes.

So a while back I used to live with my ex. Had awesome life. Nearby work, family loved me, I couldn't really have asked for more.

Then my work had some issues and had to retrench people. I was one of them. It created tensions at home and a month later I find myself single and without a place to stay as I didn't have a job.

Well I'm back on my feet now. Got a decent job now and should even be getting a new car in the next month or two, but it seems like the past has changed me.

I went from being the guy that could start a conversation with anyone anywhere to being the guy that sits quietly in the corner with a mouth full of teeth.

So obviously it's affected my confidence and I have an idea that could work if someone here can help. Obviously I'm open to other ideas, but here's mine.

I was thinking to get a part time job as a waitor or maybe a barmen. Here's my reasoning. I have been a part time waitor before and it helped so much with small talk and interacting. I think it's also where I learnt to read people really well.

So if anyone could help that would be awesome. I was really good at what I did and extremely reliable.

I don't even wanna mention how frustrating it is that most times when I go out I get random girls coming up to me to start conversation yet I just can't anymore. :(

I think it is a great idea that you have. Being a waiter and barman. Do it. The more you interact with people, the more you get your confidence back.

I used to be a waiter in my university days best days of my life!... I still have my waiter tendencies even today, I talk to everyone! I say go for it!! every person you meet has a story to tell...

Back when I was at my most confident I used to lecture and worked in retail.

Then life through me some rough patches and I'm battling to work my way up to where I was :/

Thinking about it... I should probably get a job again that allows me to practice these things!

Ok guess I asking if anyone knew any places looking for someone :)

There's so many sports bars and stuff that I dont know about as I'm not really a drinker.

I work in Midrand and live in the south so any place in greater JHB area would be fine.

And also a couple of extra bucks a month can't hurt.

Suggest barman, waiter not so much

I would also prefer bartending but mybe the OP prefers waitering.

Extra bucks will definitely come in handy when I get my new car. For the first time in my life I'll have to follow a strict budget.

Awesome thread, and good luck. I've also had things happen to me that destroyed my old happy outgoing self. I'll be following this thread. Please keep us updated.

I think waitering/bar tending might be a good idea. Are there any other ideas for working with people?

Have a look at this thread as well. There might be some interesting ideas in there. I'm actually strongly considering taking French classes somewhere in Cape Town. I've wanted to learn French for a while now anyway.

So looks like I'll have to drive around myself and see what I can find.

If you guys here of anything feel free to PM me. I have a lot of skills. So if I owe you one could really come in handy :D

Bartending over waitron ANY day.

I was a waiter (bow tie, the works) at a flashy restaurant for a year. HATED it. Rich people are rich for a reason, they don't tip. Also, you're a puppet and worthless. I left that job and went on to be a bar tender for 2.5yrs. LOVED every minute of it. Way more social and you can be yourself a lot more too. I did this while studying engineering, so it was the only time I had to socialise. Made enough money to pay off my studies as well. An average night as a bar tender got me more $ than my best night as a waiter.

Good luck, buddy.
