Hi all

I would like to get into the IT industry and possibly end up as a network admin /specialist or specialising in security.i would love to go the security route.to be honest i dont know where to start studying in terms of courses.i have considered damelin correspondence cos i found its not full of hassles like unisa and also cos i live far from any campus And i cannot afgord to leave my job.

Would it be correct if i start with comptia A+ & n+ then do mcse or is there something im missing?is this even the correct path if i want to do security?i would like a solid foundation and build on it

you want to end up with a CISSP to get a job in security. Unless you are a complete newb, an A+ teaching you how to plug in a mouse is a waste of time imo. the most solid foundation would be a computer science degree, although, like me and many others who are self taught, a passion is a better foundation - and I'm talking about the sitting at 0200 in the morning trying to write a GIF86a decoder in J2ME for fun kind of passion.

good luck!

what type of security?
compliance? Auditing? implementation?

As syntax mentions, what kind of security do you want to do? The field is vast so you have to decide what your interests are and base the courses you take on that.

The courses you listed wont help if you want to go into security, n+ will be useful if you don't already understand basic networking concepts, which is a prerequisite for most entry level security courses.
