Help with unlocking android phone please.....

My daughter managed to get locked out of her phone - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
Don't think she remembers the password as she was just using the fingerprint sensor
I can pick up her phone on her google account but can't seem to find an option to unlock it
There is an option t make the phone ring which works
I've tried to lock the phone but it won't lock as there is already a lock on the phone
I've even tried a hard reset by holding the power and volume up or down buttons
Power and volume down brings me to a fast boot screen but nothing further seems to happen
There is an erase option on google - android device manager- if I use this option will it remove the password lock as well.
Please help

Does your daughter mind losing all her info on the phone?
If she doesnt,you could use recovery mode to wipe the phone completely

She doesn't mind the loss of data
I'm just getting a fast boot screen which does nothing when I try to go into recovery mode.

Power + Volume up to get into recovery or as you mentioned erase on Android device manager...

Tried that- strange but it doesn't go into recovery mode- it goes into a screen asking me to connect the device to pc using mi suite
When I try this it doesn't pick up the phone
I do get the fast boot mode though
Will erase in the android device manager remove the password lock

Managed to wipe it and factory reset with the android device manager
All good now!
