Hi guys - looking for some advice. I have a server rack with the following components:
  • USG
  • Rasb Pi4B
  • Unifi 24 port POE switch
  • HP desktop acting as a plexserver + Unifi controller + Blue Iris NVR
  • Western Digital 2TB backup drive
The house has a whole-home UPS but i have had instances when the Earth leakage trips so was thinking of getting a server-specific UPS to keep these devices up for a few minutes as the earth leakage is reset? What kind of UPS would make sense for this kit - literally to just run it for 1-2mins

I've got a RCT 2000VA UPS powering a similar setup.
  • USG
  • Rasb Pi4B
  • Unifi 8 port POE switch (powering two Long Range APs)
  • MSI gaming laptop
  • Dell work laptop
My experience is 8-10min on before the UPS dies.

When the UPS dies, I need to power the USG and POE switch. The USG is easy because 12VDC lithium battery backups are quite cheap. The POE switch is 48VDC (or 220v AC) and the only lithium battery backups available I know of are in the R5000-R7000 range.

Ah great - that looks very workable - i'd only need it to be able to reset the earth leakage so that 8-10mins you're getting would be more than sufficient

Cheaper and easier not to get an electrician out and fix whatever is causing the EL to trip?

I thought about that - seems to only happen with the iron on a specific plug point - it would still be a good idea to have backup for the rack
