Help with Vista networking

Pretty much the same as you would between xp and xp. Just go to the Network and Sharing Centre, check that Network Discovery and File Sharing are enabled.

Does Vista still have netBEUI protocol as optional? If it does, just install it and the machines should be able to start seeing each other at least...

Try use Angry IP Scanner to find the XP PC from Vista, that will make sure that theres no connection..

Once you have that working though it's hard enough to share any folders in Vista. You have to add a group called Everyone under the security tab before other PC's can access any of your shares, had that problem in Vista for months.

I networked a XP and Vista machine today.. it was fine.

Only shared from the XP machine, and Vista could see and copy from/to it np.

How? Plug in and voila, don't see the mission there :p

Yes when plugged in cable to XP machine was voila but not with Vista --> came up with the triangle with the exclamation mark in it on the network icon in the corner near the time. I even manually put in the IP and DNS settings but still couldn't get it to work:(

what i do is set the ip on the xp computer to automatic and let the vista pc search adress, this works for me for lan.it takes a bit of getting use to but in the end you will see under vista network there will be your pc icon and the other pc name icon.

ive done all that

the strange thing is could connect to the vista pc now i cant
the vista could connect to it, then it couldnt

strange stuff and highly annoying

update on this

what i did was change all the pc's workgroup name at the same time and reboot and everything seems to working for the moment

back to basics for you ole chap, try to set a ip address for the xp pc to 196.168.0.1
then set the vista one to xx.xx.xx.02.
Leave the settings of the other tcp stuff alone, only use tput the the password sharing off and the printer sharing off, everything else on,check the green lights.Try that.
I dont seem to have a problem ,did you ever think maybe your lan cards are not set up properly

ya the problem is routesentry now

my network works fine until i load routesentry

would vista have a problem using my router for both routesentry and network?
