I currently have my PC connected to ADSL via the Ethernet Modem (the 4 port router) from Telkom, but am about to get a Tablet PC with WiFi.
I was thinking of setting up a Wireless network in my house, and have no idea where to start.

If someone could give me advice regarding what equipment I need, where to get it and just one or 2 basics, am sure I could look up the rest.

I appreciate any and all help.

Thanx

Get ADSL router with ethernet ports and wireless eg linksys wag354g. hook it all up, set up the ADSL settings and wireless and u should be fine... unless u want to know what settings to use. Comes with everything u need.

Hold on! You already have a modem and ADSL connection. Does the modem have wireless? I assume not. You then do not need to replace it - you need a wireless access point such as a Linksys WAP54G. That device you are looking at is a wireless router, and AFAIK NOT even a modem, so you cannot use it to replace your Telkom kit. Then you need a wireless connector for your tablet - does it have one built in? If not try a linksys network adapter - if you want a USB one look at WUSB54G, else look for a PCMCIA/PC-Card equivalent - whatever fits your kit.

Be aware though ( from my experiences ) that these things have LOW ranges. I had to put in a range expander WRE54G to reach the other end of my house.

I haven't connected a WAP to an ADSL modem myself, but I am sure it can be done. Others probably could give you better advice on that.

I must say that my home network based on this Linksys stuff works bloody well - impressed with Linksys.

I am no expert on this - but just go carefully and plan the little network before you waste a grand on the wrong stuff!

I stand corrected Scooby_Doo. Still think he just needs a WAP though.

Yeah, was thinking about getting an access point but a all new (shiny) wireless router sounds so much better.
And this way i can pack away the Telkom router and use it to tell my future grandchildren horror stories about the Telkom Age of Internet.
I doubt they'll believe me without evidence.

Thanx again for the help. Really love the MyADSL community, it rox!
