Hi

i recently purchased an SMC (SMC7904WBRA2) modem/router.
It has 1 x RJ-11 port and 4 x RJ-45 Ports, but no port for my phone line to plug into
Is there some sort of adapter/converter that i can buy to sort this out?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You bought a router , it doesnt have modem functionality.
You need to buy an additional "adsl modem"

I would take it back and buy an "adsl wireless N modem."
I fell into the same hole you are in , I have the same router :( , had to go and buy an additional "adsl modem" which the phone line plugs into rj11, a cable runs from modem to this routers "rj45 blue port"
Setup bidge mode

My mistake - I have the

Sorry

The "pots filter" has a phone and a modem port, or mine has at least. Use that between your modem/router and your socket in the wall... so cable goes from rj11 port on modem to modem port on pots filter, and phone rj 11 goes into phone port on pots filter, then plug pots filter into wall socket rj 11... don't know if one of those normal rj 11 port splitters will work that you get at game/telkom shops/hardware stores...

Splitter should work but without the filter your connection will be dropped / degraded every time you receive a phone call while you are connected.

Ok, so what would you plug into the RJ-11 port? Wouldn't you plug your ADSL line in there? Why do you want to plug your telephone in the modem?

ok, i was told that Your Telephone line and your adsl line is the same thing?
the port that this modem has will not accomodate the adsl line, its a different fitting

FYI - i'm not too clued up with this :o

Yes it is the same thing. Sorry I thought you wanted to then plug your phone (handset) into the modem as well. I was under the impression that the phone/ADSL line uses the RJ-11 plug. What plug does yours use? Is this the cable running from your wall socket to the modem?

thats what everyone tells me.
i think pictures are needed, i will take some pics of this modem and post them up here tomorrow, maybe things will become a little more clearer.

sorry guys, went home and checked, the plug does fit :erm:

hehe was waiting for this :)

RJ-11 is a standard used for telephone line connectors and RJ-45 is for PC LAN cable connectors. Thus any router that you buy that is meant to provide adsl internet, will have a RJ-11 port and will work on a telephone line connector. The only reason a connector might not work is if it's a special connector for a special phone, because as far as I know ALL telephones use the RJ-11 port as well in order to conform to the standard.
