hey guys, i seem to have a problem, I ordered a telephone line ( 3 months ago ) and Telkom is giving BS stories about the cable being faulty and im not sure how long i still have to wait. Now i need to know from you experts, what options do i have concerning cost effective communications. Is there any other alternate to telkom ? If i could avoid those wankers then i'd be glad.

I hope you guys understand what i have just said ...
TIA!

Check if iBurst or Sentech is available in your area. Which one you choose depends on your needs.

iBurst: High speed 1mbps, small cap, 64kbps speeds after reaching cap.

Sentech: Lower speeds (128, 256, & 512kbps), high caps.

Iburst all the way. Sentech is ok but they dont have as many base stations as Iburst. Iburst is trying really hard to compete with Telkom ADSL so its ur best bet. :)

It actually depends what you're gonna use the internet for...

If gaming then normal ADSL is the best, but I see you don't wanna go with Telkom so I would say iBurst 2nd, but if you only gonna use it for browsing and work then any of the above is fine. :)

Unless you wait for SNO to open up to the public then you've got an alternate to Telkom for ADSL lines.... hopefully by the end of this year they'll be up and running ;)

Welcome to the South African broadband world. You may think Telkom is incompetent and expensive (and they certainly are), but you'll find Sentech is worse - I am one of their many customers who got burned. I can't write all my experiences here in one post, but beleive me Sentech screwed me over badly, and from what I've read here and heard from other Sentech customers, I am not the only one. I suspect the reason that they get away with so much is simply because there are a lot more people watching Telkom, so Telkom cannot screw you as blatently as Sentech.
As for iBurst, I haven't had any experience, but just do a bit of research and you'll find a lot of unhappy clients there. They certainly are very expensive.
My advice would be to get your adsl line. If there will be any improvement in the future it is bound to be in adsl. In fact, look at the adsl options of about two or three years ago, it has improved dramatically.

The bottom line is that we get screwed by anything owned by the government. Bad news is that even the SNO is partially owned by the government
