Came home to find my pc off the other day. Tried to switch it on, but nothing happened. Went to the back, unplugged and replugged everything, and tried turning it back on again. It went on for abt 3 secs then turned off again. Puzzled, i tried it again, but nothing. The pc was dead ..

Now i know it could be a million and one things, but i took my brand new psu out and hooked it up ot another pc, and it works fine. Put it back on my pc, press power, nothing. So it seems the PSU is fine. Checked for leaky capacitors on my mobo, nothing. Checked all other hardware and everything seems to be fine.

What the hell is going on ??

maybe a faulty power cable?
have you tried pulling out the bios battery for a few seconds?
also try unplugging all peripherals so you can narrow the problem down to mobo/cpu/gpu/ram/(psu?) and work from there..

is your power switch faulty - because if you keep the switch in for 4 secs the psu will swith off... try disconnecting your power switch from the mobo and short out the mobo pins with a screwdriver to turn it on - if it stays on replace your power switch.

i dont think it has anything to do with my psu or power cables. The pc i am using now is currently hooked up the same psu and has been on for a few days now. I think i have narrowed it down to the mobo, but ive never heard of mobo's just 'dying', without any leaky capacitors, etc. Guess i will take everything apart and take in the mobo for testing and maybe get it replaced, it is still on warranty. Sigh what a mission
