Hi All...

A few month back I sold a two bike trailer through GumTree. The seller paid cash. I gave his driver (who collected the trailer from me) a copy of the sale agreement and a copy of the transfer of ownership forms to take back to him. It's now been over 4 months and this SOB still hasn't transferred the trailer into his name. He has excuses a-plenty why he hasn't (first it was the papers got lost / then it was he hasn't had the time ./ then travelling for business).

Nevertheless - License time comes up soon... I am loathe to pay it again - since this "gentleman" isnt now responding to my emails or whatsapps.

If i don't pay - I'm liable.

If I scrap it - That will leave him in a predicament as he will need to go through a schlep of getting it retested etc... And i really don't want to be an ass about it.

What other options are there if he keeps avoiding me?

You can go and just de-register it off your name at the traffic department. If he doesn't register it in his name within a certain time after that it gets scrapped.

Saw someone post this a while back.

If you have the signed change of ownership paper you can just go through to the licence department and get it off your name.

I presume its just like selling a car/motorcycle? Two forms, one de-registers it off you name and is the sellers responsibility to hand in that form, the other is for the buyer to transfer it into his name and thats his problem.

You should never give both forms to the buyer.

That said, if you can't deregister it for some reason, just scrap it. Not your problem.

Just do the darn thing. If its going to be difficult to do then do it anyway.

I sold a bike once. Dude never registered it on his name. I had to pay all the fees to get it scrapped. It was expensive but it was done. I couldn't care how he feels about it.

Anybody familiar with the scrapping process/procedures/costs?
I don't have any docs for the trailer now.

From that site of Bendens:

I sold my car what should I do now?

Firstly do NOT try to de-register the vehicle, all you actually have to do is give the original registration paper to the buyer and put in a notice of change of ownership. Please note an NCO cannot be done if the license fees aren’t paid up to date.

Thanks all for the input. Have decided to scrap the trailer and let the w@nker deal with the consequences.
