Hi guys and gals

I was wondering if anyone is intrested in helping me code a help desk in asp.net and sql?

This will be open-source project, and tools that will be used to code is Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition (C#), and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

At first it only has to be very basic. We can develop a more complex help desk in the future.

My programming experience is very limited, and i normally do the drag and drop where i can... I want to do this for my own personal experience...

I had something like this in mind:
http://www.polarsoftware.com/
http://www.zeta-helpdesk.com/

I've looked on the net for free opensource asp.net applications, i couldnt find alot...nearly nothing

Please post in this thread or PM me if you wanna join.

Cheers
Aqox

Maybe your inexperience and lack of programming knowledge is a turn off to coders as they already know who will be doing all the work...??

I think you should hold out a few more days before making a decision to can the project. Open source is quite popular with South Africans, but not many professional programmers frequent this particular forum. Perhaps starting a project page on Source Forge will garner more interest.

Edit: oh, and just as an aside, generally Open Source projects using sql server don't do too wonderfully, thanks to the restrictive license models in sql server. Perhaps using something like MySQL or even SQLITE might be a better alternative.

Something like this will need to be cross platform to be popular. So ditch (puke) m$$ql and use mysql.
And, depending on your coding abilities, throw out c# and use C++

Will wait a couple of days....

I've already started with an Asset Register project aswell. To keep record of all your IT equipment, the person its been assigned to, serial number, equipment type, etc... and its going really well so far with VWD2008 & SQL

Moederloos, it will be cross platform as soon as you visit the website... but for the coding, i think not. php, mysql, c++, mono... too much linux, too much compile, make, make install, cfg files, etc...

VWD2008, wizards, controls, views, drag and drop, eazy peazy

Ever heard of the mono project?

Ever heard of the mono project?

Yeah - even used it.
However, I am not a fan - although, it has come a LONG way over the last year or so - very impressive.
Keen to see what QT will be doing when mono goes to 2.0, seeing as how they have it as a "plugin" to m$ net 2.0+ now.

As to the OPs comment on make cfg and rather using a wizard - well, that does re-inforce your opening statement about being a beginner - I seriously doubt a seasoned developer is now going to jump aboard your project so (s)he can hold your hand.

cctv

looking for settings to setup dvr cctv/ from 3g data card

yum install mono-core.i386 mono-data.i386 mono-data-sqlite.i386 mono-web.i386 php.i386 php-mysql.i386 mysql.i386 mysql-server.i386 httpd.i386

say 'Yes' to any dependencies and you should be sorted.....
