Herbs - grow your own

So everytime i want to cook with herbs (probably around 3 times a month) i need to buy the prepacked one which costs like +-R10

now before they used to sell a roasting mix which has thyme, rosemary and stuff

and others was a fish mix

now i dont find them so have to buy herbs seperately, but i only use very little per dish.

and then most of it goes to waste

I live in a flat, what do i need to grow herbs

Mainly rosemary, thyme, dill and some others

Just buy them in pots and put them in your kitchen out of direct sunlight. Water once every couple of days. They usually last a month or two at least.

You cannot beat fresh herbs. My thyme and Rosemary actually died recently. What plant yields a high ROI in terms of amount of yeild vs time put in is chillies and peppers

Herbs are very cheap and they can be sustained just about anywhere. This is what I've got going in my garden and inside the house:

- Rosemary
- Basil
- Coriander
- Tarragon
- Thyme
- Marjoram and origanum
- Sage
- Fennel
- Chives
- Dill
- Parsley
- Lemon balm
- Chilies
- Curry tree
- Spinach (not a herb, lol)

I think that's it. I find basil and coriander don't have a long lifespan outside so I leave them indoors and when they go to seed I just throw them out and buy a fresh one since it's like R20 for a pot. But the rest of my herbs are thriving with not much upkeep at this point. Rosemary has been very hardy in the back with little water, and the rest I water maybe once a week or so. If you have a balcony then you can just get a long herb grower and plant them next to each other.

Check Nurseries, Builders and Mica. The often have ready to grow packages including seeds potting soil and pots. I know the builders ones are usually close to the checkout counters. The usually have a combination of Thyme, basil,mint, Oreganum or Sage. Then you just plop that on your windowsill and water as directed.

Rosemary has proven idiot-proof.. I don't think you'll kill it.
Just mulch to keep moisture longer - with rocks or whatever.
