Hi People, first post on this BB.

I'm the MD of a company that specializes in generators, their installation and maintenance across Southern Africa, with a wide range of choices from 5kVA to 2000kVA.

I've seen quite a lot of questions WRT to generators on this forum. Kindly feel free to direct any question or enquiries to me.

Thanks , off the top of your head - a ballpark est.
What size generator would it take to provide for 3 dentists (drilling ect) pabx -15 phones , computer network with 15 stations? and and neon lights for 10 offices?

How much would that cost ?

a ballpark estimate? ?

well, id say anything between R1,50 and R30 000.

Hi guys, sales on the smaller units has slowed down a bit, but on the big units (80kVA upwards) it's still going quite strong due to the rebates that industries, mines and factories can claim if they operate on generators during peak load times.

Eaglebeaver, very difficult to hazard a guess, I have no idea what power consumption dental equipment might have. Computer stations, phones and fluorescent lighting have a very low amp draw. The best thing to do would be to send one of our technicians for a free assesment. That can be arranged if you are interested?

Thanks g.m.
I can appreciate its difficult. I think what electricity these dental machines things chow is from motors for the drills.
The manager got a quote from some dude for 350 000 ront.

I think thats a bit steep.

My cus on the farm imported a generator from china for 30 000 ront for the whole farm. someones bull****ting me.

R350k will buy you a 270kVA cummins in silent type enclosure, I cannot fathom anything that you described that can pull more than 10% of 250kVA if even that?

R30k + - will buy you a 10kVA these days, as I said it all depends on what size machine is needed, but from your description R350k is madness.

Thanks gm. Apparently they putting the generator on hold until further notice. Will contact you if they need one though( I work in the building)
BTW the dentists share a compressor for their tools , otherwise just suction and lights .

Generator Man - what, if any, environmental safeguards do these generators have (I'm talking the bigger Cummins, Perkins type units) do any of them have particulate filters, catalytic converters etc?

Oh, I'm the MyBroadband resident treehugger, by the way. :p
